Seminary Hill

Convenient Alexandria neighborhood with inviting atmosphere.

Welcome to Seminary Hill

Seminary Hill is a sought-after neighborhood to the west of Alexandria’s Old Town district. The neighborhood is zoned for some of Alexandria’s best public schools and offers convenient access to several major roads. Interstate 395 forms Seminary Hill’s northwestern boundary, and the neighborhoods beyond this are sometimes referred to as Seminary West.

A redevelopment plan began in 2013 to add more housing and improve transportation links throughout the Seminary West area. Seminary Hill’s diverse housing options include grand private estates, mid-century townhouses, single-family homes, brick colonials, and a few condominium buildings. Seminary Hill is within a few minutes’ drive of Amazon’s HQ2 campus and Reagan National Airport, while Downtown D.C. and Capitol Hill are less than 10 miles away.

Within Seminary Hill, Shoppes of Foxchase includes a Harris Teeter organic grocery store, local shops and services, and several restaurants. Eateries include CAVA for build-your-own Greek bowls, pitas, and salads as well as Japanese hibachi and sushi at Samurai. Other neighborhood spots include Port City Brewing Company for craft beers, Vie de France for fresh baked goods and casual French-style lunch fare, and Los Toltecos for Mexican eats and fun themed nights dedicated to comedy, karaoke, and quizzes. Old Town Alexandria’s famous King Street Mile can be reached within minutes from Seminary Hill.

The Holmes Run waterway forms Seminary Hill’s southern boundary, and several parks are dotted along it. Forested 38-acre All Veterans Park has trails for biking, hiking, and running, along with areas for dogs and picnicking. Similar amenities can be found in the smaller Tarleton Park—a destination that also includes open play areas. The 26-acre Cameron Regional Park is packed with fun activities including a waterpark, 18-hole miniature golf course, and baseball batting cages. At Seminary Hill’s north, 45-acre Fort Ward Park has a fascinating museum exploring Fort Ward’s important role in defending Washington during the Civil War. Just over I-395 in Seminary West, Winkler Botanical Preserve is a beautiful greenspace with gardens and a waterfall.
