Old Town is the commercial center and the historic heart of the City of Alexandria. The Old Town lifestyle is extremely walkable ~ you can park your car and have most everything you need with a short walk or bike ride. Residential streets are surrounded and, in some areas, intermixed with retail and commercial businesses.
King Street is the main retail street in Old Town and only seven blocks from the front door of my new listing at 722 S. Fairfax Street. There are a wide variety of restaurants, boutiques, theaters, and entertainment options. On Saturdays, there is a year-round Farmer’s Market. Going off of King Street offers additional delicious options and lovely boutiques.
Beautiful waterfront parks, like Jones Point Park, are only a few blocks from 722 S. Fairfax Street.
Jones Point Park is located on the Potomac River and was a critical piece of the City of Alexandria’s history as one of the largest shipping, manufacturing and transportation centers in the United States. Built in 1855, the lighthouse is the last remaining riverine lighthouse in Virginia.
It’s easy to see why Old Town is a favorite of many: it’s full of history, has quaint alleys and several cobblestone streets, and has a beautiful waterfront. It’s also full of unique residential areas with both old and new construction, hip and traditional local shops, and a delicious restaurant scene.
Christ Church, built in 1749, is located on Cameron Street. George Washington bought a box family pew and attended services when he was in Alexandria. Today, visitors are welcome to sit in the pew.
