These clients purchased their charming Colonial about five years ago and although they loved their home the kitchen became an issue. The cabinetry was dark and outdated, the tile floor was cracked and although spacious, the layout left something to be desired. When they decided it was time for a remodel they thought long and hard about changing the layout and what would really work for their family.
Ultimately they reconfigured things just a bit, taking an existing passthrough window and opening it up completely to the dining room. The existing dining room was unusually large – designed for a table of 12 – which was great for holidays but was really just wasted space for every day living. The homeowners chose to steal a small portion of the dining room to create a walk-in pantry which is much more practical and functional use of that space. A custom island was built to be a place where family and friends could gather. The tile floors were removed and replaced with hardwoods that matched the rest of the house. The dramatic, sparkling lighting fixture adds a bit of bling. The results are just beautiful.
